Revitalized in Vegas: Finding Connection, Growth, and Purpose
Sometimes, the work we do as doulas and trainers fills every corner of our lives; the births we witness, the classes we teach, the stories that stay with us. And then, once in a while, we get the chance to step away from it all and remember why we do this work in the first place.
That’s what the ProDoula Trainers Summit in Las Vegas was for me; a week of connection, inspiration, and rediscovery.
Connection in Every Corner
From the moment I boarded my flight with a colleague (and dear friend), I felt that this trip would be about community. Night one set the tone: together in pajamas, cookies shared, recognition given. I was both surprised and deeply touched to be acknowledged for my efforts in training this past year, as well as for my commitment to my social media. It reminded me how far this work can ripple, even when I’m just sharing what I love online.
Growth Beyond the Classroom
Day two took us deeper; thought-provoking conversations about how the emotional support we give in labor extends far beyond birth itself. We discussed how our teachings evolve between in-person vs virtual spaces, explored what truly helps learners connect, and offered ideas to strengthen the curriculum we use every day.
The afternoon was lighter, floating down a lazy river and relaxing in the sun with other trainers. And the evening, pure wonder: Cirque du Soleil’s Ka. The artistry and movement were breathtaking, a vivid reminder of what the human body is capable of when guided by purpose and collaboration.
A Sensory Reminder to Trust Intuition
The next morning, we visited a woman-owned candle studio. None of the scents were labeled, which meant we had to trust our instincts. Choosing fragrance by scent, not by name, reminded me so much of how we teach doulas: follow your attunement, not your assumptions. Let intuition lead.
Reflection, Renewal, and Purpose
By the final day, as some began their journeys home, I felt both full and grounded. I wandered through the Bellagio Gardens with a few colleagues, marveling at waterfalls and flower sculptures that seemed to breathe. Later, we ended the trip at the MGM spa; massages, sauna, stillness. It was the perfect exhale after a week that had been both action-packed and soul-stirring.
That night, I returned to the ProDoula suite to thank Randy Patterson and Lisa Davidson for organizing such an intentional, inspiring summit. I told them how much it meant to reconnect, not just with others, but with myself.
The Catalyst
I came home with a full heart and a clear mind. This trip was exactly the magic I needed to revitalize my spirit and remind me why this work matters…why teaching doulas matters.
Community is the heartbeat of what we do. When we invest in each other’s growth, we multiply the impact we have on the families and futures we serve.
Here’s to connection, renewal, and saying yes to what calls us forward.
